Whole home renovation of welcoming parkside residence

With entrancing backyard views of Rock Creek Park, this home originally built in the 70s seems perfectly nestled in its environment. With this in mind, the homeowners sought out Touchstone Remodelers for a whole house update of the existing structure to create a more modern, aesthetically-pleasing, and comfortable living space in which to host visiting family and entertain important guests.

To capitalize on the lush wooded views and highlight the home’s proximity to nature, Touchstone installed large sliding glass doors and built an elevated, three-season screened-in porch featuring a sturdy combination of steel and wood framing. Premium vertical-grain red cedar was used to line the inner ceiling of the porch and reflect a rich, warm amber glow at evening, in elegant contrast to the dark porch trim. A finishing touch to this porch addition is the custom spiral staircase, which descends invitingly from the edge of the exotic ipe wood deck to the patio below.

The project also included a kitchen and dining room remodel of what were originally two closed-off, entirely separate rooms. The owners envisioned a larger, open-plan kitchen and dining area to facilitate the entertaining of both small and large groups. Wide-plank white oak floors, the finest crafted cabinetry, stainless steel fixtures, and meticulous tile work adorn the sleek, modern kitchen. A fireplace formed from a floor-to-ceiling dry stack of split-face grey porcelain above a milky Paonazzo Italian marble hearth serves as a conversation-starting centerpiece to the adjoining living/entertaining area.

The project’s extensive bathroom remodeling encompassed the master bath, second en suite bath, and hall bath, as well as the powder rooms in the basement and on the first floor, each provided its own distinctive character but all given the same close attention to detail. The master bath notably features a luxurious hydrating steam shower.

The remainder of this whole house update included new home systems and professional-grade appliances throughout, along with general updating of most rooms in the house. Judging from the steady flow of compliments received by the homeowners since the remodeling and, more importantly, the delight expressed by the homeowners themselves, this renovation was a resounding success.
